A sensible letter to the Editor

From the Letters section of today's Australian:

IT has been said that if you control language you control thought. For decades we suffered the abuse of the word "democracy" by communist regimes claiming it as their own. Now, at a far more personal and cultural level, we suffer the abuse of the word "martyr" in Muslim culture in referring to suicidal murderers. In Western Christian tradition, a martyr refers to one who, under specific threat of torture and death, refuses to deny principles of faith and morality and accepts death as the consequence.
